Secret Garden Dress sewn by Golden Rippy

Sprouting JubeJube’s Secret Garden Dress Tour is kicking off today and Golden Rippy is proud to be a part of it! DSC_0147s
This dress is so fun and fancy. I immediately fell in love with the cascading back and my fingers were itching to sew it up. 🙂 I think it took about 5 hours to sew. I was trying to sew quietly so I wouldn’t wake up the kids and I was binge watching some shows on Netflix again. There is a good amount of handstitching…coughcough…but I fudged it a little and managed to do it completely with machine. That’s what happens when your kids take your pin cushion that had all your hand needles on it…dang, I still can’t find it. Hah.DSC_0151s

Here’s my little modifications to it. I did a regular zipper, even though it calls for an invisible zipper. I tacked the bow on the back with my machine. I ironed the pleats when I was happy with them. I tried to raise the back up a little but it wouldn’t fit over her head, so I just went with the pattern…and I love how it turned out! It wasn’t too low or anything! 🙂 DSC_0153s
Tips for sewing it:
  • READ the instructions through… a couple times before you try to sew it. I was scratching my head a few times because there were some new techniques I haven’t seen before. READ READ READ.
  • Pick some fun colors and have fun! If you have a print on the outside, tone down the underskirt with a coordinating solid, but play up the cascade with bold contrasting pop of color!
  • Don’t attempt to change the neckline unless you are adding buttons down the back or moving the zipper to the back. You need that extra cut-out so that there head fits through. 😉DSC_0139s

Overall, this was a real fun dress to make. I would call it advanced for most home seamstresses. But if you’re confident in your sewing abilities and looking for a challenge. this turns out amazing. Jump right in and start sewing your little one a Secret Garden Dress! It also has a simple version without the cascade that would be suitable for all levels of sewing. 1. Oh Rachel that looks lovely. I thought about changing something to but I couldn’t think of anything. Somebody aready told me they look like angels in these dresses…. I love how your little angel looks!

    1. Thanks Stacey! He was such a trooper while I took her pictures. We were done getting pictures and they started playing in the puddles…that picture is like a minute before they jumped in a mud puddle. Lol, at least I got good pics before. 😉
