The fabulous Lauren at Baste & Gather invited me to participate in a Momiform Makeover. It would entail me sewing new pieces to update my wardrobe and elevate my usual style. Dude, if anyone needs a makeover it’s me! There’s only so many months after having a baby you can still wear pajama bottoms out of the house…or you gotta pop out another baby to prolong that excuse. I’m sick of yoga pants, even when I do yoga. SO, out with the old and in with the new!!
I’ve been slowly adding to my momiform during the last few months. And if you live close by you’ve probably noticed me wearing some of them around town.
It was about a month after having the baby that I felt super frumpy. Nothing but sweatpants and hubby’s screenprinted shirts fit me. I felt like Regina George on those Calteen bars. “Nothing but sweatpants fit me”.
I cried.
I hated ALL OF MY CLOTHES. My boobs were too big for my old shirts. I’ve put on 20 extra pounds. My hips have spread so much they won’t fit in any of my old jeans or skirts. And after having 5 kids I will always look pregnant unless I try to suck it in. Yep, one of my kids asked me the other day if I was pregnant. I have a three month old. Ouch.
I’ve accepted my new body. I just want to feel pretty and not frumpy anymore.
So the first thing on my list was skirts.
Because if you really know me, you know I’m not a skirt kinda girl. I like jeans. I’m a bit of a tomboy and don’t like having to worry about my clothes getting in the way of having fun. Yes sirree, I could hike a mountain at a moment’s notice, go fishing or let’s be honest, chase my kids through the aisles of a store. I LIVE in pants. So my new wardrobe needs to be better rounded.
And it needs pretty skirts out of necessity.
You see, we go to church every Sunday and I get really hot around the house during the week. Sometimes you just need a nice skirt to look pulled together. You know?
This is the Petal Perfect Skirt from Little Lizard King. Fabric from Girl Charlee.
I made them all with knit waistbands because I’m lazy right now and just want something that fits every day of the month. I’m 3 months postpartum…fitted waistbands are the freakin devil. Believe me.
Yay for whoever made maxi skirts IN right now.
As far I’m concerned, they’re still IN until I find a fitted skirt that I like. I made up this pattern. I’ll post a free tutorial for it. It’s super simple to make. ๐ And fabric from Girl Charlee.
And because you can NEVER have too many skirts that don’t wrinkle (thank you spandex). Here’s another for your viewing pleasure.
Another petal perfect skirt.
I saw this fabric in the remnant bin at JoAnns! It was less than a yard. Score!! It’s sooo pretty. I feel so girly when I wear this.
Okay, one last skirt to make me feel pretty. The Calrose Skirt from Golden Rippy. Fabric from JoAnns, because they have awesome solid knits.
Momiform elevated? Ummm. Yes. Boom chicka wow wow.
Now on to tops!
Did I mention I live in screen printed shirts? I’m pretty sure anything is a step up from that.
I was beyond thrilled to sew up the Willow Wrap top from Love Notions. It’s my new uniform for assistant coaching my son’s soccer team. Because it’s also totally discreet to nurse in.
Winning!
And fabric from Girl Charlee.
Despite my best efforts I’m pretty sure I’ve flashed some of the parents during the games. Meh, oh well. Comes with having a wee baby. But check out that awesome job matching the foxes on the seam. Yes, you have permission to stare at my chest this once.
And here’s my Disneyland inspired top. Bambi in the front, Cheshire Cat in the back. It’s just bright and cheery. It always makes me smile. This is the Delilah Top from Golden Rippy, minus the arm bands. Doe print from Girl Charlee, stripes from FIDM.
And like any Disney princess, animals are drawn to me when I put it on.
And because I love this Willow Wrap top pattern so much, this is my “I look put together” shirt.
For when I’m a hot mess but need to run out for some errands like picking up the kids, going grocery shopping or driving to get the mail. Or trying to coach a game while all 4 of my kids are on the sideline and the other one is playing. Yep…this shirt has been field tested and approved.
If you haven’t sewn with ponte roma, you must. It feels like a dream when you wear it. I got this print from Girl Charlee.
Thanks Lauren for challenging us to update our Momiform. I feel so pretty and not frumpy!
Even though I’m probably sleep deprived, I can still look cute and put together!
In upcoming posts I’ll share my reviews of these individual patterns. And any tips I learned while sewing them.
