Learn how to crush your goals in 5 easy steps. It’s never too early or too late to make new goals. So go grab a pen and some paper, because you’re about to map out your dreams and goals!
Not all of us have the luxury of having a personal life coach. But these are some simple steps you can start making to crush your goals this year and every year! Come back to this post whenever you need to refresh your goals (after you’ve accomplished them), so you can make new ones!
Step One: Define Your Passions
Think about what makes you happy, what makes you excited and what you want to work on.
Start by making a mind map with all the areas of your life: Family, School, Relationships, Friendships, Health & Fitness, Finances, Career, Personal Development, Spiritual.
Think about how satisfied you are right now in each area. What is going well, what do you wish you could change? Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Start thinking long-term and what your big picture is going to look like. Remember, we’re going to take consistent steps to achieve our goals.
Step Two: Narrow it Down
Now that you have an idea of what you want to achieve, write down the goal you would love to accomplish.
As for Health & Fitness, your goal might be “Take a workout class”. For Personal Development, your goal might look like “Take a new class to learn a skill or hobby”. You can repeat this step for every area of your life.
Think about what would make you happy and feel accomplished if you completed your goal. Think about how your life will look like and feel like once you’ve achieved your goal.
The key is to really feel positive about your goal so that it’s something you would be excited about finishing.
Feel confident about your goals. These are for you to grow into your happiest self.
Step Three: Take Small Steps
To achieve your goals, you’re going to have to take small steps. Think of all the mighty oaks that once started off as tiny little acorns. It took small steps over time to grow into something big, beautiful and amazing.
It’s not realistic to achieve all of your goals really quickly. Don’t get discouraged if you have to take small, consistent steps to achieve them.
Break down your big goals into bite-size steps you can take to reach them.
For example, if your goal was “Take a workout class”, you’re going to want to get some workout clothes and shoes that are comfortable, find a local class, and enroll in it. Every time you attend one of the classes, you’re making progress on your main goal!
And don’t forget to celebrate each of the mini-goals that you accomplish on the way!
That’s the secret to learn how to crush your goals.
Step Four: Be Realistic
Look at the big picture and know that you’re only human. When you set huge lofty goals, you’re going to have to take a lot of small steps to get there. Don’t get frustrated if you can’t complete a goal overnight or if you slip up and miss a day towards it.
You’re making progress, and that’s the important part!
This especially works if you’re a procrastinator and want to learn how to be more productive. As long as you’re making small steps towards your goal, you’ll be able to accomplish it, even if you get a burst of motivation at the very end of your timeline.
Step Five: Stay Motivated and Positive
It’s okay to mess up every now and then and have a down day. Don’t worry about days you slip up or get sidetracked. You’re allowed to take “mental health days” and they can help prevent burnout. Remember to celebrate your wins and everything that you’ve accomplished so far.
If you’re working on a particular big goal and don’t feel like you’ve made a big difference, remind yourself of how far you’ve come. There are other accomplishments in your life, and you took steps to get there. This is just another one of those and someday you’ll look back and be amazed at how you accomplished it! A couple days off it, won’t negate all the hard work and progress you’ve made towards that goal.
Stay motivated and you can not only achieve your goals, you can crush your goals!
Good luck!
