DIY Faux Gold Dipped Jewelry Dish and my 1st RocksBox

wp-1455760812608.jpgI was trolling around on Instagram and saw some cute jewelry dishes.WANT! And I needed a fun project. So I headed over to Joanns and picked up some clay. Here’s a little tut so you can DIY your own Faux Gold Dipped Jewelry Dish  too! You can put your jewelry of the day in it. This is a fun project for kids too, my boys made themselves coin dishes. 😉

You will need:

  • 2 packages Sculpey oven-bake clay (I tried another brand also but it was too hard to sculpt)
  • Gold Paint Pen
  • Oven (adult supervision)

Run to the store and pick up 2 bricks of clay in your happy colors. I picked ballet pink, light pearl blue and a glittery pearl.wp-1455756760568.jpg

For the top of each dish, you need one section pink and one section white. Or whatever colors you picked.wp-1455756770332.jpg

Put the two pieces, side by side and then twist them. Twist, twist, twist until you’re happy.wp-1455756777297.jpg

Roll into a ball. And smush it flat with your fingers.wp-1455756271035.jpg

Gently pull it into a circle shape.wp-1455756279188.jpg

Now, we’re making the bottom. Grab one brick of white and roll it into a ball.wp-1455756285812.jpg

Smush that flat into a circle-ish shape like the top.

Pick the side of your first circle that you want to be the dish, then put the white on the back side of it. This will be the bottom, don’t worry if it’s not perfect.wp-1455756293733.jpg

Cut out a circle with a knife (& big mason jar lid). Or cut into a star, moon, arrowhead, heart or whatever shape you like.wp-1455756299606.jpgwp-1455756322468.jpg

Make sure you get all the bubbles out, and then pinch the edges together.wp-1455756622777.jpg

Turn over and pinch the sides up to make a lip around the edge. I like the fluted edge look.wp-1455756359921.jpg

Bake in a 275 F oven for 20 mins. Let cool.wp-1455756683848.jpg

Let cool some more and then use a gold paint marker to paint the rim of the dish. wp-1455756696800.jpg(I painted the inside and outside).wp-1455756702759.jpg

Stick your little baubles in it and enjoy!

Make one for your gal friends. I made one and gave it away on Galentine’s Day to her.wp-1455757170813.jpg

My baubles are the 3 things I got from my trial of RocksBox this month. My stylist Kimberly knew I liked the earrings and was eyeing that necklace, but it was her idea to pair them with the ring.

Earrings are MOON & LOLA Starlett Studs in Gold.

Necklace is GORJANA Greer V-neck.

Ring is SOPHIE HARPER Pave X Ring in Gold.

I LOVED the look of the ring and wore it for several hours, perfect size. Good guess Kimberly. But since I do a lot with my hands all day, like typing, washing, drawing, etc, I found the pave crystals to be too scratchy…insert sad face here. Gorgeous ring though. If the pave only went half-way up I would be all over this in a heartbeat. But I’m very tactile and it was just too much. I’m the Princess and the Pea.

I was all over those earrings though. They’re super light, you can’t even feel them. Fun little bling. And even though they’re yellow gold, I can overlook that. I bought them. They’re MINE. End of discussion. Lol.

Oh, I did say I liked silver and yellow gold in the questionaire… so that’s on me. I was thinking, why not give yellow a chance and see if it looks good on me. Haha, nope. Still doesn’t, I’m too pink. But I believe in giving second chances.

So as much as I hate to see it go, the necklace is going back too. If it was silver, I would be all up on that. And if I change my mind and decide I NEED it back in my life, I’ll be able to get it back. No worries! 🙂

Ignore my orange gaming headphones behind me. Lol.rachelrocksbox

This isn’t a sponsored post. I just really like finding pretty things and sharing them.

If you want to try RocksBox out for a month for FREE use my code RACHELHBFF6 . You can cancel before your trial is up and you won’t be charged anything. I’m sending back my box to try some more fun baubles, I still have 2 weeks left for this month! You could probably try 2 boxes in one month too! 🙂

Oh and if you decide to keep anything they send, you get a discount on it. Yeah, talk about a bonus.

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry…because I’m allergic to cheap stuff. 😉 Hahaha…so true though. And none of this stuff turned me green or gave me rashes. They do a good job of keeping it nice and classy. Good job Rocksbox.

Anyways. Life is too boring to just get bills in the mail, so it was super fun to get that little box in the mail. And I LOVE that I get to try them out to see if I like them for reals. No commitment to the pieces, I can just admire them if I want. Better than guessing in a store if that necklace really suits me and my wardrobe. And my shoulders have really broadened out with hefting kids around everywhere, this necklace doesn’t look the same on me as it does on some chicks on Instagram…that’s all I’m saying. ðŸ˜‰

Happy mid-week my lovelies! Hope your month is going well so far. Let me know who you make a jewelry dish for! 🙂
