Hola my lovelies! I’m here with a fun and easy project for you today!
So who here celebrates Dia de los Muertos? You know, the Day of the Dead. It’s the day we remember and honor our ancestors and past loved ones. Not the day we celebrate goblins, ghouls and spooky things….totally different. Like, huge difference. This is not “Mexican Halloween”, in case you’re wondering. Hah. I just want to point that out.
While I was thinking of a project for you all, I was thinking what the holiday means to me. And most of my fondest memories of mi familia involve food and huge parties. It seems only fitting that my contribution to this tour is cupcake toppers! Because no party is complete without my cupcakes.
First, make your favorite cupcake recipe. I grabbed an Apple Caramel cake mix and just followed the instructions. After they cooled, I hollowed out the middle and piped white chocolate pudding into them. Surprise! Then I piped cream cheese frosting on top. If you drop a few drops of food coloring into a quart size bag before you add the frosting, it will create a fun stripe effect as you pipe. Just snip off a corner of the bag and have fun! Then shove them in the freezer for a few minutes while you make the toppers.
Gather your supplies:
- scissors
- glue
- toothpicks
- print-out toppers
Cut out your pieces, add some glue to the back copy and then put the toothpick on, like so. Cover the tops with the colorful calaveras and you’re done!
Now watch as they quickly gather…
and have their own little party!
But they love cupcakes even more than parties.
You can find these fun cupcake wrappers, plates and napkins at Target.
As soon as I saw this plate I knew what I was going to do with it. Lol.
Here’s the dayofthedeadcupcakes pdf. Please link back to this post if you want to share, don’t link right to the pdf. Thanks!
